Caught mid-zip, your elf is dangling by one hand from a string zip line that runs in from the window.

A 5-minute idea for The Elf on the Shelf® or any elf doll.

  • Arrival
  • 5 min
  • No mess
  • Easy
  • Ages 4–7, Ages 8+

What you need

  • string or yarn
  • a clothespin or a binder clip

How to set it up

  1. Tie a string between two curtain rods, or a curtain rod and another high, sturdy spot, sloping gently down.
  2. Clip one of your elf's hands to the string with a clothespin, partway down the line.
  3. Let the other arm and the legs dangle, as if they're zipping in from the window.

Safety check

Hang the line high and out of reach, across a corner away from walkways, cribs and beds. Take it down after breakfast. How we check

Note from your elf: Wheee! Fastest way into a house. Ten out of ten, would zip again.
