Sock Rope Window Arrival

A rope of knotted socks hangs down the window, and your elf is still on it, almost in.

A 5-minute idea for The Elf on the Shelf® or any elf doll.

  • Arrival
  • 5 min
  • No mess
  • Easy
  • Ages 4–7, Ages 8+

What you need

  • 4 or 5 long socks
  • a hair tie

How to set it up

  1. Knot four or five long socks end to end into a rope.
  2. Close the window, then tie one end of the rope to the window latch or handle so it hangs down the glass.
  3. Slip a hair tie around your elf's wrist and the rope near the bottom, so your elf hangs on as if climbing in.

Safety check

Keep the window closed and locked, and check that tugging the rope can't turn the latch. The rope is for looking, not climbing: take it down after breakfast. How we check

An elf doll hanging from a rope of knotted colorful socks that dangles down the inside of a closed window, as if it just climbed in.

Note from your elf: The chimney was busy, so I took the window. Nailed it!
