Painter's Tape Laser Maze

Your elf turned a doorway into a laser maze overnight. Can your kids get through without touching a beam?

A 10-minute idea for The Elf on the Shelf® or any elf doll.

What you need

  • painter's tape
  • paper and a marker

How to set it up

  1. Across a doorway nobody uses at night, like the living room's, stretch strips of painter's tape at different heights and angles.
  2. Sit your elf against the wall on the far side, a torn strip of tape stuck to its hat, as if a beam caught it.
  3. Tape a sign at the start that says LASER MAZE: DON'T TOUCH THE BEAMS!

Safety check

Use a doorway nobody needs at night, never the way to a bedroom or bathroom, so no one walks into it in the dark. Painter's tape keeps the paint safe. How we check

A doorway crisscrossed with strips of blue painter's tape at different heights like laser beams, a paper sign that says LASER MAZE, and an elf doll sitting against the wall on the far side with a torn strip of tape stuck to its hat.

Note from your elf: Laser maze is open! Rule one: don't touch the beams. I made it through... mostly.
