Two-Elf Tug-of-War

Two elves, one cozy sock, and a very serious disagreement.

A 5-minute idea for The Elf on the Shelf® or any elf doll.

  • Needs 2 elves
  • 5 min
  • No mess
  • Easy
  • All ages

What you need

  • a short sock
  • a strip of tape
  • a few books

How to set it up

  1. Put a strip of tape on the table as the center line, and set the note beside it.
  2. Sit an elf on each side, each leaning back against a small stack of books.
  3. Wrap each end of the sock around an elf's hands, tuck it under their arm, and pull it tight.

Safety check

Use a sock, never a scarf, ribbon or string: those can wrap around a toddler's neck. Keep the book stacks low and steady. Painter's or masking tape won't mark the table. How we check

Two elf dolls sitting on small stacks of books on either side of a tape line, a striped sock tucked under their arms and pulled tight between them.

Note from your elf: We pulled all night and the sock won. Your turn: towel tug-of-war after school!
