Marshmallow Star Map

Your elf mapped the night sky in marshmallows, so you can find the North Star that guides them home.

A 5-minute idea for The Elf on the Shelf® or any elf doll.

  • 5 min
  • No mess
  • Easy
  • Ages 4–7, Ages 8+

What you need

  • a dark baking sheet or dark paper
  • mini marshmallows
  • an empty paper towel tube

How to set it up

  1. Lay seven mini marshmallows on a dark baking sheet as the Big Dipper: four for the cup, three for the handle.
  2. Find the two cup stars farthest from the handle. A hand's width above the cup, in line with them, add one more: the North Star.
  3. Lean your elf beside the map with a paper towel tube propped against one eye, like a telescope.

Safety check

Mini marshmallows are a choking risk for kids under 4, so this one is for ages 4 and up. How we check
